[Hhh] Hash Trash - 20/10/2014

Hi Hashers,

Next Run
What: AGPU
When:   27th October 2014 at 6pm
Where: 93 Rous Mill Rd, Rous Mill
Hares : Lost with space (Sue)

NOTE:  It was suggested that the event have a collar and tie dress code.  Though this was not "locked in", as this is our first AGPU, Hashers may want to make a bit of an effort.

Last Run
When: 20 October
Where: Nesbitt Part, South Lismore
Hares : Procol (Gary) and Alternative Root (Mary-anne)

A good collection of walkers and runners gathered at the car park of Nesbitt Park to take on the course laid out by Procol.

The runner's started off with a lap around the track while the walker's took the shorter distance to the road.

The course took both the walkers and runners on a winding route through South Lismore, along train tracks, over a worn-out bridge and crossing back and forth over the Hollingworth creek before taking everyone over the Richmond river and down past the spray painters and roses on the eastern side of the river.

At the HHH mark runners had the choice of two ways to get back to the beginning.  The shorter path involved backtracking along the way that everyone had run.  This resulted in a number of walkers giving up and heading back before reaching the HHH, a site that they will one day come to regret.

Back at Nesbitt, Hash Brown (Peter) (one of the walkers who remarkably kept pace with the runners) provided a report from the walk, aided by interjections from other members of the walking group.  It was noted that the walk was the "best walk in years" that collected a few dunny canes (I am not sure if I wrote that down correctly), someone attempting to usurp No More Gaps (Faye) of her title, and everyone collecting many farmers friends.  It was noted that the walk was a very educated walk because it took on the three R's.  Rail, Road and River.

Yarnbomber (Dayle) was volunteered to provide the report for the run.  She had been focused more on just being able to "last the distance" and as a result had not taken that much notice of how the run went.  Though she did comment on Bituman's (Patrick) ballet impression when trying to signal that he had found a circle on the ground.

Down Downs were given to:

Procol - Hare and host/cook
Alternative Root - Hare and host/cook
Yarnbomber - 50 runs

Snags, spuds and Salad went down a treat with everyone having a great feed (though maybe some tomato sauce would have been the icing on the cake - or the sauce on the snags in this cake)

NOTE: Bali Interhash  20-22 May 2016 - start saving now....

Apologies for not providing a list of the next run locations.  My list is out of date.

On On!

[Hhh] Next NRHHH Run 20th October 2014

Hi Hashers,

Next Run (no 1526)
When - Monday 20th October at 6pm
Where - To be advised
Hare - Procol

Last Run (no 1525)
When -Monday 13th October at 6pm
Where - 3 College Avenue, Skennars Head
Hare -Draggin' The Chain (Vicky)

Note: AGPU (Annual General Piss Up) on Monday 27th October to select Hash Mismanagement Committee - free nosh and grog!

A wild and wind-blasted evening at Skennars Head. So wild in fact that, according to Hare Draggin' The Chain, the trail arrows had all been blown away; or washed away by the rain (that still had not arrived yet). So, armed with photocopies of the weather-challenged trail, the hash set off into the teeth of the wind. Procol led off a trio of runners (he is no longer the harem of old) whilst Saddle Sore, brandishing copies of the trail aloft, led off the walkers.

Passing under the road, the hash arrived at the beach together, the walkers turned south, keeping the wind and wind-blown stinging sand behind them whilst the runners turned north. it was quite a strange sensation to be blown along the beach whilst sandblasted from behind. Miss Pushy, keen to really get some exercise, powered away down the flat beach, fortunately managing to stop before she dashed herself on the rock outcrop that lay ahead. Energy spent, she puffed all the way home. At Flat Rock, as the skies darkened and grew more ominous, the walkers turned for Home, returning along the newly constructed footpath that, as yet, does not quite get to Skennars Head. A spectacular sunset filled the skies with every colour imaginable. However, heavy plops of rain broke any romantic reveries and everyone made a rapid race for On Home, arriving just before any serious rains fell.

Back in Draggin' The Chain's cosy garage, the circle discussed the hash trail. As Runnymead had not ventured further that the end of the driveway, her ruminations on the trail were not sought.

No More Gaps said she enjoyed the walk along the beach to Flat Rock camp site and had a good chat along the way. Her fellow chatterer, Dung Beetle, said they were speculating as to whether Draggin' The Chain would be 'pickled' by the time the hash returned. Apparently/allegedly (choose your own word) this was the Hare's condition on a previous occasion.

Kizzme came in as the last runner and remarked upon the lovely view she had, from behind, of the other runners throughout the trail. She was amazed at the shocking wind, which brought on a 'Titanic moment'. The trail end was certainly momentous, with a great sunset.

Bituman noted that it was something of a commemorative run, in commemoration of a hasher throwing caution to the wind (something he would not have attempted on this wind-blown evening) by asking a fellow hasher to consider thoughts of betrothal. Bituman presented Hootu with a carefully selected flat rock (actually a pebble). Polarised remained demurely quiet.

Downs Downs were given to:

Draggin' The Chain - Hare on such a wind-blown evening (who used a plate to save any grog spillage, either to protect her hash tee shirt or not waste any valuable grog)
Giuseppe - Hash visitor from Italia (Miss Took's cousin) who said he would remember this hash night always.
Miss Pushy - Welcome return to a hasher, missing for many a hash run

Hare Draggin' The Chain, putting her Italian to the test, served an excellent meal of lasagne (pronounced laasaaaagneeye apparently) with salad. Many thanks to Draggin' The Chain for hosting the hash and a great hash night at Skennars Head.

[Hhh] Next NRHHH Run 13th October 2014

Hi Hashers,

Next Run (no 1525)
When - Monday 13th October at 6pm
Where - 3 College Avenue, Skennars Head
Hare - Draggin' The Chain (Vicky)

Last Run (no 1524)
When -Monday 6th October at 3pm - Labour Day
Where - Tony's Cafe, Compton Drive, Ballina
Hares - Dame Edna and Out of Africa

Note: AGPU (Annual General Piss Up) on Monday 27th October to select Hash Mismanagement Committee - free nosh and grog!

A beautifully sunny afternoon. Perfect Labour Day weather to be not labouring away somewhere but limbering up for a delightfully flat hash run. Shading eyes from the glaring sun and glaring pink of Toecutter's new outfit, the hash was briefed on the forthcoming delights of the trail. Rome was famously built on seven hills and and, apparently but somewhat less famously, so was East Ballina. The hash was going to run them all.

Hare Dame Edna warned the hash about the seven hills and lots of steps. Taking the advice given, some walkers, led off by  Draggin' The Chain, who appears to suffer from some form of acute vertigo when hills are mentioned, opted for a flatter loop around Shaw Bay. The rest of the hash was led off by Hash Brown and immediately began racing up the first few steps of a long flight of steps and after about twenty more steps, the sound of much puffing and panting filled the air.  On top of the steps the small group of runners loped off as the walkers meandered the leafy streets, climbing the rest of East Ballina's hills and, high on the crest of one hill, actually seeing a whale as it breached out in the ocean.

Retread was in great hash trail form, correctly leading the walkers 'On On' at each check and even spotting arrows (which were large and well marked) almost half a kilometre away. It was a hot afternoon but when the walkers arrived back on top of the flight of steps they decided to walk further and loop around Shaw Bay, following in the footsteps of the altitude-avoiding hash walkers.

Back On Home, on the terrace of the closed down Tony's Cafe, Hares Dame Edna and Out Of Africa welcomed the returning runners and walkers.

Impulse said he enjoyed the run and was able to confirm there were lots of hills. Certainly seven.

Draggin' The Chain spoke about the low altitude alternative walk and Hootu commented, as always, that it was an excellent walk.

Downs Downs were given to:

Dame Edna  - Hare for a well marked (and hilly!) trail
Out Of Africa - Co-Hare and grub organiser
Miss Took - 100 Runs! Congratulations - and celebrated with a shandy shower

Hares Dame Edna and Out Of Africa served served up Malaysian inspired food as the hash sat around and relaxed in the cool shade of the afternoon. Many thanks to the Hares for a great hash trail and On Home on such a glorious afternoon and a great location.

[Hhh] Next NRHHH Run 6th October 2014

Hi Hashers,

Next Run (no 1524)
When - Monday 6th October at 3pm - Labour Day - *NOTE EARLY START*
Where - Tony's Cafe, Compton Drive, Ballina
Hares - Dame Edna and Out of Africa

Last Run (no 1523)
When -Monday 29th September, 6pm
Where - 11 Martin Street, East Lismore
Hare - Tea Bag (Leah)

Note: AGPU (Annual General Piss Up) on Monday 27th October to select Hash Mismanagement Committee - free nosh and grog!

With a couple of regular runners away, a very small group of runners set off, with the walkers close behind. Perfectly drawn arrows marked the trail. Crossing a small footbridge, the walkers ambled (it was that sort of evening) towards SCU, stopping for a Hash Halt near the Koala Sanctuary. The runners had long since disappeared and no koalas were around either so, with Senior Citizen/Pensioner/Birthday Boy Hash Brown leading, the hash walkers continued up the slight rise to the Uni. Once amidst the Uni buildings, Hash Brown decided to deviate from the beautifully marked trail and took the walkers on a scenic route that skirted across to St Vincent's Hospital, where he recently had the dubious pleasure of being a guest. After much talk of other hashers medical visits to the hospital, the medical sightseeing detour was over and the walkers headed towards home.

Just after passing some tennis courts the walkers split. Most took the direct trail home (Draggin' The Chain was particularly keen) whilst a keener bunch, being Hash Brown, Retread, Slurrrr and Plugger, took a slightly longer trail home, returning back via the cemetery. Passing through the pitch-black of the cemetery, Slurrrrr declared she would have a word with her grand parents, who are apparently long term residents. They must have been busy, as no murmurings of conversation could be heard in this rather spooky setting.

Back at Hare Tea Bag's residence, a large hash gathered in a less than large front terrace. It was cosy. Proceedings were delayed slightly as birthday cakes were collected, so Bituman kept the hash entertained with a stream of jokes. As per the established tradition, some jokes were appallingly dreadful.

Impulse was asked to enlighten the hash on the run but, somewhat impulsively, Bituman jumped in and spoke about the great run hash run and perfectly shaped arrows, which Hare Tea Bag had lovingly marked along the trail (although, it was noted, the quality of the arrows tailed off towards the end). Impulse thought the arrows were so numerous and carefully drawn, Tea Bag should be called Apache.

Lots of Down Downs, as lots of Down Downs to catch up with:

Tea Bag  - Hare for a well set hash - everyone loved the arrows
Caroline - Virgin Hasher who we hope comes again
Upcycler  - for a stunning success at Toastmasters  - well done!
Yarnbomber - for the hash cardinal sin of wearing New Shoes, with the requisite penance being applied. Thanks for being a great sport!
Impulse - for competing in the Byron Lighthouse run, then still coming along to hash

There were lots of Birthday Down Downs with:

Hash Brown - Birthday Boy
Toe Cutter - Birthday Girl-to-be
Saddle Sore - Birthday Boy-just past
Slurrr - Birthday Girl-just past

Hare Tea Bag served up an excellent meal that was greatly appreciated, followed by birthday cakes for Hash Brown and Toe Cutter. Hash Brown demonstrated his new Senior Citizen status by showing a complete inability to blow out three candles.

Many Thanks to Hare Tea Bag for a great hash trail, great hash grub and for hosting the hash - and for those spectacularly marked arrows!
